**Kathmandu ** — Social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit have been flooded with posts suggesting a major protest will take place on October 9, allegedly led by Nepal’s Gen Z movement. Slogans like “Gen Z, be ready” and “Bring back the King” have gone viral, sparking public concern and speculation.
However, Gen Z leaders have issued a formal statement denying any involvement in such plans. “We have not called for any protest on October 8 or 9,” said campaign spokesperson Prabesh Dahal. “Certain groups are spreading misinformation in our name to hijack our movement.”
Dahal accused political actors of attempting to exploit youth activism for their own agendas. Gen Z leader Tanuja Pandey added, “We stand for democratic reform, not violence or chaos. Our movement is about accountability and peaceful change.” A Discord community called “Youth Against Corruption,” which has over 160,000 members, also released a notice rejecting the protest rumors. They urged members to remain vigilant and avoid falling for unverified claims. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has increased security in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. Additional police units have been deployed, and surveillance has been heightened in sensitive areas like Maitighar and Gundu.
Gen Z leaders believe the October 9 rumors are part of a political ploy to discredit their movement. They reaffirmed their commitment to organizing future events with clear objectives and peaceful methods, emphasizing that any official announcements will be made through verified channels.
